We have a BCU (new style) 3* course running in white water kayaks on 10-11 April 2010 in Manchester. It's a combined training and assessment, so if you're an existing 2* paddler, this will just the course for you!
Last weekend, the Rockmonkey team headed to Durham city to deliver an outdoor first aid course for the University canoe club. Here are some snaps from the course:
We are able to provide outdoor first aid training to clubs, companies and other organisations around the country. Prices from £60pp – please get in touch via the main Rockmonkey website.
Would you be interested in volunteering to help provide safety cover for this event? This is a great chance to practice your white water safety and rescue skills, so if you can help out throwlining for a few hours or would like to spend two full days live-baiting, we'd love to hear from you.
Providing White water safety and rescue cover for the BUCS slalom event
You can expect free tea, and if you can help for a whole day or more there's also free camping and party tickets. As always, you can take time out to compete yourself, so there's no reason you can't get stuck in!
The dates of the event are 13-14 February 2010, and there's loads of information about the event itself at http://www.bucsslalom.org.uk/
Meeting the needs of all NGBs, and aimed at walkers, climbers and paddlers, this 2 day outdoor first aid course is ideal anyone who works or plays in the outdoors. At only £80, it's also a bargain, with discounts available for group bookings.
Big thanks to the boys and girls who came down to the Washburn for the 2009 BUCS WWR, organised by the Friends of Durham University Canoe Club. Once again the whole event was great fun, and Rockmonkey would like to thank everyone who donned their warm clothes and spent the weekend helping swimmers out of the water, and recovering gear for various clubs. We couldn't do this sort of event without the dedication and professionalism of these guys – big love to all from Monkey towers.
We will be providing the white water safety cover for the BUCS kayak and canoe river race at the Washburn again on 28-9 November 2009. If you have white water safety and rescue experience or qualifications, you can join in the action and receive the bottomless FREE TEA! If you're interested, please get in touch.
July 2009 saw us load up the vans and head to St Davids in beautiful Pembrokeshire for a week of fun in the sun. Despite the howling gales we managed to get in the water every day and enjoyed some great waves at Whitesands beach as well as climbing at Porthclais and jumping and swimming in the sea.

The course will suit those who have paddled a handful of times before, but may not yet have attained 2 Star level.
