BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue Courses
The Foundation Safety and Rescue (FSR) course replaces the old Canoe Safety Test as the pre-requisite for attendance at a coach training course. The course is designed for all paddlers irrespective of craft. The objective is to teach simple safety and rescue skills that can be applied in a sheltered water environment and methods of dealing with common emergencies. By the end of the day, you will be able to rescue swimmers and a variety of different boats, using several different techniques.
This is a fun, practical, wet course, and is useful for anyone who takes part in paddling on flat water, whether or not they intend to progress on through the coaching scheme.
This course is overseen by experienced L4 coach Chris Lomas. There is an ongoing assessment throughout the day, but it is expected that most attendees will pass without problems.
You should be a competent paddler before attending this course, holding 1* or equivalent experience (equal to several days paddling).
