Kayaking Courses

Beginners Kayaking Lesson (Locations nationwide)

Kayaking and canoeing are two of the easiest activities to learn. Whether you opt for a single person kayak or a two-person canoe, they are a great way to explore lakes, rivers and canals. On a beginners lesson you will learn the basics of paddling forwards and backwards, turning, stopping, and how to stay safe on the water. Then it's time to play some games to practice your new found skills, maybe stop for lunch on an island, or make a raft to sail back home. You needn't get wet, but on a warm day, an "unintentional" dip can be the perfect end to an energetic session!

Costs depend on location and group size, but will be in the region of those listed under "Flatwater Improvers" below. NB For beginers, group size may be up to 8.

Flatwater Improvers

Have you had a taste of kayaking before and want to consolidate your skills? Chris and Will have introduced hundreds of people to the sport of kayaking over the past few years. Courses are avilable in full or half days and by the end of the session you'll be more skilled and confident on the flat. Typical things we can work on are efficient forwards paddling, turning strokes, balance and boat control and recovery strokes. If your feeling up to it we can also look at rolling skills if the weather is suitable!!

Dates on request in the next few months. If you are booking as a group of up to four people the cost is £80 for half a day or £120 for the full day. If you are booking alone then the costs are £25 for half a day and £60 for the full day, although you might be sharing your session with other clients

Once again U18s are welcome if accompanied by their parent or guardian for the course duration

Introduction to whitewater kayaking (North-East or Cumbria)

If you are looking to make the transition from flatwater paddling onto the moving stuff then the North of England provides the perfect rivers. Our coaches all have extensive local knowledge of the best sections for high or low water conditions and experience of coaching and paddling across Europe.

For this course it's best to have your own kit (suitable boat, PFD, helmet, paddle, dry-top, warm clothes and footwear) although with enough advanced warning we can often help you hire some.

For group size from one to three people the cost is £130 for a days coaching, not including transport anywhere. (We'll arrange to meet at a suitable location). If there are between four and six people the cost is £260 for the day, again not including transport.

Previous experience required: Happy to paddle on flatwater (forwards, backwards, turning etc..)

NB. Under 18s welcome on this course but they MUST be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian at ALL time (i.e. on the water throughout the course).
